Huts
The Arctic Circle Trail has 9 official huts along the original route. If you choose to hike the Southern route, there is currently 1 hut that is scheduled to be ready in summer 2024.
The huts are maintained by the local government and are open all year round to anyone on a first-in-first-served basis. However, many of them are very small, so it is essential that all ACTers carry a tent.
Note: Hundesø is NOT an official hut and is not maintained.
Rules for using the huts
Given their remote locations, the huts can only be serviced once per year. This happens during winter when they can be accessed via snowmobile.
For this reason, we need all users to help keep the huts and their surroundings clean so that others can enjoy their refuge.
Before you decide to hike the trail, please familiarize yourself with our rules and instructions for using the huts:
- Cleaning
- Toilet use
- Disposal of garbage
- Heaters
- Canoes (Katiffik and Canoe Centre)
- Charging station (Canoe Centre)
You will find this same information inside each shelter.
