Kerosene heaters

The paraffin (kerosene) heaters in the huts

Each of the huts along the Arctic Circle Trail contains a paraffin (kerosene) heater. These are primarily for use by locals who provide their own fuel and who have been shown how to operate them correctly.

Although there are instructions in the huts, we strongly urge ACT hikers NOT to light the heaters for 2 reasons:

  1. There is a real risk of fire or explosion if they are used incorrectly
  2. Incorrect use causes damage, and they must be fully operational for the winter when locals dogsled or snowmobile between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut

IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED ON HOW TO LIGHT THE HEATERS CORRECTLY – PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM
